ST12 cold-rolled steel coil: the preferred material in the low-carbon economy era

Release time:

2025-05-30

As an economical low-carbon steel, ST12 cold-rolled steel coil continues to be favored by the market in the fields of construction, home appliances, and automobile manufacturing due to its excellent formability, weldability, and surface quality.

Material properties
ST12 belongs to the German standard (DIN 1623), which is equivalent to DC01 of EN 10130 and SPCC of JIS. Its low carbon content (C≤0.10%) ensures good plasticity and processing properties, yield strength ≤280MPa, tensile strength 270~410MPa, and elongation after fracture ≥28%, which is suitable for general forming processes such as bending and shallow stamping.

Production process optimization
In recent years, steel companies have successfully stabilized the production of ST12 without relying on LF refining by optimizing smelting processes (such as "deoxidized slag washing" and strengthening argon station treatment), reducing energy consumption and increasing continuous casting rate, further enhancing market competitiveness.

Application fields
ST12 is widely used in chassis, building templates, automotive non-structural parts, etc., but its strength limitation makes it unsuitable for deep drawing or high load scenarios. Stamping parts with higher requirements need to use deep drawing grade materials such as ST13/ST14.

Outlook: With the advancement of the green manufacturing trend, ST12 will further release its application potential in new energy and lightweight structures in the future with its environmental protection and cost advantages.
